James Michael OBrien 79 of Hopatcong New Jersey passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday February 11 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 1 1946 in New York City he was the beloved son of the late James OBrien and Helen Sullivan OBrien. James attended Rutgers University and earned his DPW Leadership Certification. Early in his career he held a management position with Con Edison in New York City. He later became a proud business owner operating Dig We Will Construction Company and Jimmy Os Deli where he built lasting friendships within the community. Most recently he worked as an inspector at Van Cleef continuing his strong work ethic and dedication. Known affectionately as "Bibi" and "The Hat" Harry lived a life marked by devotion to those he cared about. Born on Leap Day he often enjoyed the uniqueness of his birthday a fitting distinction for a man who was truly one of a kind. Harry was a proud entrepreneur. Over the years he owned and operated Mels Floor Covering in Hasbrouck Heights New Jersey as well as Irenes Laundromat and several Mixed Bags stores. For 63 remarkable years Rob was loved by many for his easy going nature and ability to lightup any room he entered. He easily made friends cherished relationships found joy and lived life to its fullest creating unforgettable memories with his family and friends. Robert was the beloved son of the late Walter and Edna Laufenberg.
