Verna “Gayle” Hammonds, 75, of Calvert City, KY, died February 12, 2026, at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Center in Paducah, KY. She was born July 12, 1950, in Golden Pond, KY, to the late James Carl Watkins and the late Wanda Duff Peek. Gayle moved with her family to Grand Rivers, KY, as a teenager where she spent most of her life. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church and cherished her time working with the youth. Gayle loved her family, friends and anyone who came into her orbit. Anyone who was blessed enough to know her will tell you how very kind she was, possessing a spirit of love and care for everyone. To know her, was truly to love her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marty Hammonds; son, Stephen Hammonds; and daughter, Crystal Gayle Hammonds. She is survived…
