Our mother was born in 1932 to James Garfield Wood and Sarah Burchette Wood in Wilkes County where the mountains begin. She grew up down in the holler from Bethany Baptist Church where she was baptized in the river in 1946. She was preceded in death by her spouse Charles Everett Wood her parents and all her siblings Royal Wood Clara Dowell John R. Wood Charles Thump Wood Von Wood Marie Creed twins Dorothy Wood Betty Jordan Carolyn Sis Wood. Mary and Everett moved to Winston when the first Staleys was opened as hed worked at Staleys in Wilkes County. When we were small we went to Wilkes almost every Sunday to visit the many relatives. Mrs. Ima Lee Gentry Crews age 84 of Purlear passed away Wednesday February 11 2026 at her home. Funeral services will be held 300 PM Sunday February 15 2026 at Millers Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Shannon Critcher and Rev. Jim Gore officiating. Burial will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 200 until 300 PM prior to the service at the church. Ima was born on March 15 1941 in Wilkes County to Arlie Rayvaughn and Sarah Emma Brown Gentry. Ima was a devoted Christian. In her youth she was part of a trio that included her sister Ruth and friend Rebecca Sidden and would sing at church gatherings. Lois Dempsey Bentley passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 10 2026 in Raleigh North Carolina surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her parents Gladys Morris Dempsey Mozingo and Walter Madison Dempsey her sonin law Brian Beard and by her beloved husband of 61 years Charles Parks Bentley. Lois was born on August 21 1936 in Charleston South Carolina. Because of her fathers work in construction she moved often as a child and attended multiple schools. She always said her happiest years were spent in Rockingham North Carolina. She graduated from high school in Charlotte and later attended Mars Hill College where she met the love of her life Charlie Bentley in an English class.
