Jim Polkinghorne son of Walter J. and Alma L. Polkinghorne was born March 7 1929 in Monterey CA and died February 11 2026 in Elko NV at age of 96. As a child Jim attended a rural school 10 miles from the family ranch in the Pumpernickel Valley 60 miles south of Winnemucca NV. Because the school had a maximum enrollment of five and occasionally as few as three his parents decided that Jims exposure to life should be expanded. He was sent to live with a married stepsister in Reno NV where he attended 5th and 6th grades. Jim attended grades seven through 12 in Winnemucca where he boarded with a Basque family developing a lifelong appreciation for the Basque people and their upbeat lifestyle.
