Rev. Charles C. Martin, Grove Oak, AL made his transition to his heavenly home Monday, February 9, 2026, at approximately 2:35 p.m. Born and raised on Straight Mountain in Blount County, Alabama he graduated from Appalachian High School in 1959. Growing up he was always active in school sports-basketball, baseball, football. Immediately following graduation he went to Parris Island, S.C. for Marine Corps boot camp. Following training in the Russian alphabet and language he was given a top-secret cryptographic clearance to track and break the Russian communications during the Cold War. He was assigned to various locations including the Philippines and Cuba. He completed his last 23 months in Kamaseya, Japan receiving his discharge in March 1963. He was not de-classified until the fall of the Belin Wall in 1989.During his military career he continued his involvement in football and fast pitch softball, receiving a football scholarship to Arizona State…

Raymon Morton, 91 of Snead passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Saint Martin’s in The Pines. He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Starkey Morton, son U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Benjamin Morton, parents Ted and Nellie Holmes Morton, siblings Randyal Morton, Syble Prickett and Shirley Morton.Surviving are children Brian Morton (Elizabeth), Melanie Morton McQueen and Lauren Cain (Steed); grandchildren Matthew Morton (Heather), Ashley Morton, Amanda Morton McGill (Josh), Danielle Herrera (Gage), Nathan McQueen, Patrick McQueen, Kendra Osborne, Hillary Talley (Andrew), Paul Cain (Kalli), Ada Morton and Nina Morton and brother Charles Morton and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other beloved family and friends. Mr. Morton was a lifelong Auburn fan, and frequently attending games was a cherished pastime for him. Funeral services will be held on Friday February 13th, 2026, at the chapel of Lemley Funeral Home with burial following at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in the McLarty…
