Shirley Ann Kennedy, 83, Tyler, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Hospice Home Place in Tyler after a brief illness. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. followed by services at 2;00 p.m. in the chapel of Jackson’s Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
She was born in Tyler on August 9, 1934, to the late John Lewis Perdue and Ethel Bedgood Perdue. Shirley was a graduate of Tyler High School and Tyler Commercial College. She retired as a clerk from Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, where friends became like family. She was a long-time member of Asbury United Methodist Church, where she was organist for 30 years. She will be remembered as a loving mother, wife, “Nana” and friend.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Kennedy and is survived by daughters, Becky Snyder and husband Ben, Chandler; Julie Ables and husband Gary, Tyler; Jill May and husband Steve, Waco; son Scott Bracey and wife Linda, Waco; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Ben Protas, Chris Ables, Cody Ables, Matt May, Cameron Ables, Blake Snyder, Brody Snyder and Bryson May.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler 75701.
