Salvatore “Sammy” Joseph DeFatta, 94, went to be with Our Lord and Savior on, Friday, November 10, 2017. He was born to Joseph and Sadie Rinaudo DeFatta on July 18, 1923. He was preceded in death by his parents when he was a young child. He, his brother and sister were raised by his uncle and aunt, Rosario and his wife, Sallie Feducia DeFatta who preceded him in death, also his brother, Phillip DeFatta and wife, Ethyl; sister, Susie DeFatta Piro and her husband, Salvatore “Sammy” Bernard Piro, Jr.

He is survived by his nephew and Godson, Bernard “Bernie” Piro and wife, Sara; nieces, Georgia Ann Piro, Patricia Robichaux and husband, Gerry, Debbie Causey and husband, Rusty. He leaves numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Uncle Sam graduated from St. John High School in 1940 as Valedictorian and attended Business College. When Kansas City Southern Railroad came to the college to recruit students and due to his high grades and work ethic, his teachers recommended him for the position. He worked for KCS for 42 years until his retirement.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm with a Rosary to follow on Tuesday November 14, 2017 at Osborn Funeral Home on Southern Ave. Services will begin at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans where he was a lifelong member. Officiating will be Msgr. J. Carson LaCaze. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bernie Piro, Brandon Mitchell, Joey Robichaux, Nick Piro, Craig Causey and Kelly Tatchell.
We would like to give special thanks to Kelly and Lucy Tatchell, who have been dear friends of Uncle Sam, for several years. He always looked forward to Kelly’s daily visits. We would like to thank Peggy Green, a dear friend from St. John’s, she faithfully delivered communion and prayed with and encouraged him each week.
