Services for Richard Ellis Smith, 71, of Tyler, will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church with Father Hank Lanik officiating.
Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in Tyler.
He was born October 11, 1946 in Pittsburg, Texas to Ellis Canada and Mary V. Williams Smith.
Richard was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1965. Richard also graduated from Texas A&M University and received a Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering and he was later employed as a petroleum engineer consultant. A big kid at heart he enjoyed soccer, sailing, riding motorcycles and anything to do with cars. Richard also enjoyed visiting and spending time with his lifelong friends. He had a big heart for any dogs especially his white lab “Casper” who will miss him dearly.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Gary Smith.
He is survived by his loving family including wife of 45 years, Kergy Smith; daughter, Amy Smith; sons, Nicholas Smith, Eric Smith and his wife Natalie; grandchildren, Cody Smith and Kinley Smith.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Graham, Cam McLarty, Mike Rowan, Bobby Brodnax, Sam Dawson and Jack Holland.
