Services for Richard “Dick” Grubbs, age 76, will be held Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel in Tyler, Texas with Rev. Eric Barton officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Grubbs was born April 5, 1941 in Tyler to Ernie and Pauline Grubbs. He passed away surrounded by his family Sunday, February 11, 2018 at his home in Tyler.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Estes. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 25 years, Jill McIntyre Grubbs; his children, Karl Grubbs and wife Gena, Kirk Rotramel, Michelle Rogers and husband Chris, Kevin McIntyre, Keith McIntyre and wife Ashley, Kelly Henshaw and husband Kenny; his sister, Joann Browning; his brother Robert Grubbs and wife Susan; and 11 grandchildren.
Dick graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler and then made his way to Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches. He worked his way through SFA on an offshore oil rig. After graduating, Dick held various positions in management and sales. He retired from Pitney Bowes in 2000. Dick had a passion for great barbeque! He owned and operated Dickie’s in Canton serving the best BBQ and steaks on the “Mountain.” Dick married Jill McIntyre July 21, 1993. During Jill and Dick’s years together, they shared many adventures as far-ranging as Singapore to motor home trips. Dick never met a stranger.
Dick was a caring father and husband and he will be greatly missed by his family. Dick also leaves behind countless friends that he shared many laughs with. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital as well as Hospice of East Texas for the care that they provided Dick in his final days.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.
