November 13, 1949 - September 2, 2017
Pat Smith was called Home on September 2, 2017, after a long, hard-fought battle with COPD.
She was preceded in death by her father Thomas Dunham, mother Edith Linder, sister Carolyn Sisk, brothers Tommy Dunham, Randall Dunham and Danny Hicks.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Smith, of 49 years and 11 months, just 31 days shy of their 50th anniversary; sons Jared Smith and wife Darla, Joseph Smith and wife Sandy, James Smith and wife Rachel, daughter Joy Smith Nelson and husband Ray, many wonderful foster children, and 17 cherished grandchildren; brother Mike Dunham and wife Carla, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
Pat was born on November 13, 1949, in Texarkana. She was known to many people and had many names: Daughter, Wife, Mom, Nannie, Friend, Child of God. In her nearly 68 years here on earth, her greatest joys were in helping others and sharing the love of her Savior. From being a steady companion, wife, and loving Mom, to her love of making precious quilts with loving friends and growing beautiful things in her garden; her devotion to family and friends showed in all that she did. Her love of God and the promise of eternal life were reflected in the way she lived every minute of every day she had here in her earthly home. Many were filled with hope and peace knowing that Pat was a mighty Prayer Warrior who prayed for their needs and the easing of their pain. Her frequent admonitions to "Never Give Up!" were often just the words that we needed to hear to go on for another day. She lived her life in a way that left no doubt that she was not only a Child of God but a Friend of God. She knew where her true Home is and who would one day call her Home to Glory. It was never goodbye but always see you later,
See you Soon.

We are immensely grateful to our family and friends during these difficult days. The outpouring of love and support that we have received is a testament to their commitment to serving others.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Pat’s caregivers during the last several months, especially her loving sister-in-law Donah Loftis, who served in any way she was asked; and the hospice caregivers who were there to make her days more comfortable and to support the family through difficult decisions.
Thank you to Woodland United Methodist Church and Tabernacle Baptist Church of Rendon for opening your doors to friends and family for these celebrations of Pat's life.
Thank you to the many friends and extended family that have shown us their love through visits, food, and prayers. Your thoughtful outreach means the world to us.
And finally, one last request...please carry on Pat's legacy of caring for and loving those she encountered by showing loving kindness, sharing God's beautiful gospel and following Christ's teachings in all that you do. It is the way Pat lived her life, and no greater tribute can be given than to share her story.
