James Emory Salter (J.E), died Sunday, November 12, 2017 at his home on Lake Cherokee, Texas following a battle with cancer. Services will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 2:00pm at Hawthorn Funeral Home in Carthage, TX visitation will be at 1:00-2pm at the funeral home.
Born March 6, 1938 to Enoch James Salter and Shirley Anderson Salter and raised in Carthage TX, he was a 1956 graduate of Carthage High School.JE is the great, great grandson of Jonathan Anderson who donated the land for the city square of Carthage. After high school he joined the Navy and served 4 years. While in the Navy he attended Fleet Sonar School for 8 months in San Diego, CA. Then he was stationed on the USS Destroyer and served as a Sonar man for 2 cruises in the western pacific.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Jennifer Kay Salter and sister Edna Salter Lovil. He leaves his loving wife of 32 years, Eleanor; his son, James Michael Salter and sister Bettie Salter Ross and her son Durwood Lynn and his son Justice and his stepson John Richard Wall and wife Samantha and their children Dirk, Blake and Ty, stepdaughter Stacy Cady and Brent Cady, their children Christina Giordano and her spouse Scott Giordano and Hunter Cady and numerous other beloved family members and friends.
He had 34 successful years at Texas Eastman in research and was a member of The First Christian Church and volunteered with the meals on wheels program for many years.
An avid golfer in his younger years and loved traveling with his wife and beloved dogs all over the US. They traveled the Alaskan Highway twice. Fished some of the great trout streams of the American West with his beloved golden retriever Cajun, a dog for all seasons.
