Funeral services for Mr. Alton Johnson, Sr., 91, of DeBerry, Texas will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Matt Comer officiating. Burial will follow in the DeBerry Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Alton James Johnson was born August 23, 1926 in Wells, Texas and passed away April 5, 2018 at his home in DeBerry. He was one of six children born to Bennie Lee and Willie Lee Latham Johnson. Alton was raised and schooled in Wells and graduated from Wells High School. He served his country through the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Johnson was a truck driver and retired after 38 years on the road. Alton married Linda Johnston and celebrated 40 years together. He was a member of the Still Waters Cowboy Church and loved fishing, riding horses and tinkering in his shop. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Alton James Johnson, Jr.; grandson, Danny Joe Johnson; brother, Leon Johnson; and sisters, Ruth Shoemaker and Sherry Johnson.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Linda Johnson of DeBerry; children, Jerry Johnson of DeBerry, Quinn Johnson and wife Sue of Crosby, Cregg Johnson of Tenaha, Gayle Lynn “Bubba” Johnson and wife Debra of Montgomery, John Thomas Johnson and wife Melissa of Highlands; brother, Jimmie Johnson and wife Nancy of Deer Park; sister, Brenda Stephens and husband J.R. of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Tonya Johnson, Teresa Johnson, Trey Johnson, Jennifer Salas. Kelly Donawa, Loren Johnson, Terri Johnson, Kayla Johnson, Hayli Johnson; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends; and special niece, Brenda Lee Jackson.
