Mrs. Margie Gibbs, 71, of DeBerry, Texas passed away September 28, 2015 at her home in DeBerry surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Margie Ann Dawson Gibbs was born June 3, 1944 in Oak Grove, LA. Margie was one of eight children born to Simon Eugene and Hazel Irene Beard Dawson.

She met and married the love of her life Paul Arthur Gibbs on December 18, 1964 in Riderville, Texas and together they celebrated 45 years until he preceded her in death on January 30, 2010.

Margie received her nursing degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA and worked for 33 years as a Registered Nurse for the Department of Health and Hospitals Office of Public Health retiring in 2005 as the Nurse Manager of Region 7. She was also on the Louisiana State Board of Nursing for 8 years and served as president for 2 years. Margie received Nurse of the Year for Public Health two times by the Shreveport District Nurses Association. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Waskom. 

She is also preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pete and Maurine Gibbs; sisters, Shirley Dawson, Peggy Dawson, brothers-in-law, Kenneth Tolbert, Ray Hardee, and nephew, Kevin Dawson.

Mrs. Gibbs is survived by her loving children, Paul Arthur Gibbs, Jr. and wife Karen of Bethany, LA, Cherie Horton and husband Winston of Elysian Fields, Helen Campbell of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, James Peloquin and wife Cherie’ of DeBerry, Dereck Peloquin and wife Rachel of Odessa, Dawn Peloquin and John Stover of Shreveport, LA, Jennifer Gledhill and husband Chris of Keithville, LA, Christopher Horton and Samantha Goebel of Bethany, Dustin Horton of Elysian Fields and Haley Horton of Elysian Fields; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, Gerald Dawson and wife Charlotte of Mansfield, Max Dawson and wife Dixie of Bossier City, LA, Eddie Dawson of Eudora, AR; sisters Barbara Tolbert of Marshall, Susie Cedotal and husband Peter of Kilbourne, LA; brothers-in-law, Basil Gibbs and wife Doris of Deadwood, Jimmy Gibbs of Carthage; sister –in-law, Dorothy Hardee of DeBerry; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Anil Veluvolu and staff, Dr. Richard Haynie and staff, the doctors and staff at M.D. Anderson and to HeartsWay Hospice.
