Leonora Maria Brumbelow

October 8, 1922 - October 13, 2017

Leonora Maria Brumbelow
Jacksonville, TX

A service in celebration of Leonora Maria Brumbelow’s life, age 95, of Jacksonville, is scheduled at 11 o’clock in the morning, Monday, October 16, 2017 at her church, the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville with Rev. Joel McMahon and Rev. Doug Wintermute officiating. She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Mrs. Brumbelow passed away Friday, October 13, 2017 in Jacksonville. Leonora was born October 8, 1922, in Jordan, Montana to John Henry and Maria Theresa (Koch) Hinther.

Leonora lived a full life with determination and strived to always keep a balanced life with her spiritual, family, friends, and work. She was blessed in all phases beyond her childhood life. Growing up on the Eastern Montana plains with nine siblings in a sod home life required so much and therefore she learned a lot about herself and others. World War II took her to play a role and where she found the love of her life, Virgil, in Washington State and they married before his European deployment. Upon his return post-war, they moved to New Braunfels, Texas with their son, Larry, to live. Two more children, Kathy and Gene, blessed their family. Virgil’s work with Entex transferred the family to Jacksonville in 1963, where they resided thereafter and Leonora worked for 22 years at Beall’s. Virgil passed away in 1996.

For the rest of her life, Leonora remained active in her church, garden club, square dancing, lake, travel, arts and crafts, and sharing life with a host of family and friends. Her home was always open to all.

A beautiful lady that was determined to make a difference “where she bloomed where she was planted” in life and all she did. The Jacksonville Garden Club and Jack’s & Jill’s Square Dance Club (last charter member) and many civic needs that she would lend her many talents thereto.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, her parents, her brothers Emmanuel, Bill, August, Fred, Karl, and Hilmer; and sisters Rosie, and Hulda.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Larry and wife Jerri Brumbelow of New Braunfels, TX; Kathy and husband Richard Adkins of Middletown, OH; and Gene and wife Donna Brumbelow of Jacksonville, TX. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren Stephanie and husband Charles Nicely of Somerville, OH; Kristen Adkins of Middletown, OH; Bradley Adkins and wife Rachel of Oak Ridge, TN; Travis Adkins of Middletown, OH; Elise and husband Kyle Craig of New Braunfels, TX; Dawson and wife Holly Brumbelow of Virginia Beach, VA; and Anne and husband Bud Farmer of Jacksonville, TX and three step-grandchildren Ellen Cobb, Emily Sykes, and Evelyn Malinowski and her nine great-grandchildren Zachary and Alyssa Nicely; Colton Adkins; Mia and Lucas Smock, Lucy and Lily Brumbelow; Lake and Forrest Farmer. She is survived by her sister, Gertrude Hinther of Glasgow, MT, and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Visitation will begin at 10 o’clock in the morning at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.

Pallbearers will be Dawson Brumbelow, Brad Adkins, Travis Adkins, Zachary Nicely, Bud Farmer, Kyle Craig, Kirk Sadler, Robert Sadler, Rob Beall, and Scott Roeber.

Special thanks to Angelina House staff and residents and Hospice of East Texas for their graciousness and wonderful care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jacksonville, TX Garden Club, First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, TX or a charity of one’s choice.
