October 23, 1976 - June 14, 2018
Joanna Lynn Shifflet, 41, of Nacogdoches, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 in Nacogdoches. She was born on October 23, 1976 in Lufkin, the daughter of Jimmy and Martha Wright Hill. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, June 18, 2018 at Laird Funeral Home.
Joanna was born and raised in Huntington and attended Stephen F. Austin after graduation. One afternoon, a family friend had a get together and she met a very special young man, Patrick Shifflet. The two later rekindled their friendship when they saw each other during high school. That friendship led to a wonderful love story when she gave him her hand in marriage on May 18, 1996. Their family grew to hold four children, and their births were the most cherished days of her life. Joanna was the epitome of what a wife and mother should be. She dedicated her life to loving and teaching and caring for her husband and children. They were the most important thing in her life. She was often found reading to the children or coloring with her girls or sitting and listening to the great baseball and softball stories the kids and Patrick would tell her. Her life truly centered around her family. Joanna battled a terrible disease for over 15 years, and even during this trying time, she was always putting Patrick and the kids first. She dealt with more than any human being had to, and what most could not handle, but she did it with grace and dignity. Although her body was failing, she continued supporting and loving her family. Her legacy of putting family first and doing everything you can to cherish and support those you love will carry on in the hearts and minds of her beloved husband and children. Joanna will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Joanna is survived by her loving husband, Patrick Shifflet, of Nacogdoches; sons, Troy Shifflet and Drew Shifflet; daughters, Tatum Shifflet and Peyton Shifflet; and brothers, Allen Hill and Jerry Hill; as well as many other family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Martha Hill and brother, Tommy Hill.
