George Russell McVay

George Russell McVay 63, of Paris, died at 3:42 AM, Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Paris Regional Medical Center. A memorial service is set for 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 7, 2018 in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Nash and Rev. Richard Preston officiating. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
George was born November 23, 1954 in Dallas, Texas to Wayne Russell and Pauline Bell Wooldridge McVay. He graduated from Denison High School, earned his Associates Degree from Grayson County Junior College, and received his Bachelor of Music Education from Southeastern University in Durant, Oklahoma. He married Paula Joann Boyd on June 12, 1976 in Denison, Texas. Mr. McVay was a diamond certified jeweler and member of the Presbyterian Church. He was also a band director in Paris and Grants, New Mexico where the band earned sweepstakes honors and he also directed the drill team. George was a supporter of the Boy Scouts and served as troupe leader for Troupe 3990 that has the distinction of having the highest percentage of Eagle Scouts. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow, the Paris Municipal Band where he played the trombone; was one of the original organizers of the Paris Christmas Parade Committee; and managed several local restaurants.
Mr. McVay is survived by his wife, Paula McVay of Paris; one son, James McVay and wife Jennifer of Azle, Texas; two grandchildren, Lee Russell and Emma Elizabeth McVay of Azle; one brother, Richard McVay and wife Stephane’ of Arlington, Texas; a niece, Meagan McVay of Dallas; a nephew, Blaine McVay of Arlington; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Russell McVay; his mother and father; and his step-father, Fred Schroeder.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Thomas McVay Scholarship Fund at the North Lamar Education Foundation, the Boy Scouts of America, the American Cancer Society, or charity of one’s choice.
