George Clifton English, of De Kalb, Texas, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017 at a Clarksville, Texas care facility. He was 70.
George was born July 25, 1947, in Oak Grove, Texas, to George Washington and Annie Elizabeth Smith English. On August 2, 1996, he was married to Gwenda Lynn Davidson in Texarkana, Arkansas. He was retired from Red River Army Depot, was a member of American Legion Post 488, a member of the VFW and was a Baptist. George was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served during Vietnam. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Shannon Denice English; a brother, Billy Joe English; and a sister, Bobbie J. Dutcher.
He is survived by his wife, Gwenda Lynn English of Blossom, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Clifton and Meagan English of De Kalb, Texas; a stepson and his wife, Gregory Alan and Rita Potts of Paris, Texas; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Sherry Lynn and Terry Riott of Utah and Cindy Dawn Potts and Jerry Wolfe of New Boston, Texas; two sisters, Edna Brem of Texarkana, Texas and Jimmie English of Maud, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Louie and Lamona English of Gilmer, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Rayley English, Gage English, Easton English, Kenneth Riott, Rachel Vaccaro and Zane Wolfe; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas with Rev. Rocky Dodson and Rev. Kelley Shanks officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Woodmen Cemetery in De Kalb, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, November 13, 2017 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.
