Dewald Lake

DeWald Lake, age 86, passed away quietly at his home on December 26, 2017. He was born in Jacksonville on August 10, 1931, and lived in the Jacksonville area most of his life as a health care administrator, business man and rancher. Prior to his retirement from Nan Travis Hospital, Jacksonville, which is now ETMC, Jacksonville, he was Assistant Vice President and Assistant Administrator of the Methodist Hospitals being responsible for personnel and purchasing over fourteen hospitals. Previouslyhe served as Administrator and Secretary of Gardendale Inc. and Sunset Care Center. Before his current illness, he was an active member of First Christian Church, where he served as an Elder. He has also supported and served in Gateway of Hope, Crimestoppers, the Civitan Club, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Upon his retirement in 1996, he was able to devote full time to ranching which he loved.

He is proceeded in death by his wife, Phyllis Keller Lake; his mother, Ottis Noland Lake, and his father, Cortus Lake. He is survived by his sons, DeWald (Gus) Lake, Jr. and David Q. Lake, both of Jacksonville; grandsons, Dusty Lake of Palestine, and Paden Lake of Dallas; great granddaughter, Addison Lake of Slocum; sisters Joan Treadwell of Jacksonville, and Nancy Cruse and husband Joe, of Rosenberg; brother David Lake and wife Shirley of Tyler; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

Funeral services shall be held at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville, with visitation starting at 1:00 pm, followed by memorial services at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 2 in the chapel. Burial shall be in Resthaven Cemetery, Jacksonville.
