Timothy Dean Young

March 6, 1971 - February 16, 2015

Timothy Dean Young
White Oak, TX
2/16/2015

Timothy Dean Young, 43, of White Oak, TX,  went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 16, 2015. For five years, encouraged by his faith, his family and his friends, he courageously battled a form of brain cancer which normally has a survival rate of only a few months. Loved ones and friends will always remember his positive attitude while facing this devastating illness, and his determination and commitment not to give in. He continued teaching his students, even from his wheelchair, during the final months of his life. They responded to his teaching as many of his classes had done before, with more than 99 percent passing the qualifying test to become officers of the law.

Timothy was born in Dallas on March 6, 1971, the only child of Linda and Larry Young. He graduated from Pine Tree High School in 1989 where he was the Golf District Medalist. His ability in golf earned him a scholarship to Navarro College where he received his associate's degree. He completed his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State in 1994. Since that time he has been associated with police work and education in various forms for twenty years. Timothy received the Longview Police Department's Reserve Officer of the Year award in 1993. From 1994 to 1999, he served with the Gregg County Sheriff's Department.Beginning February 1, 1999, Timothy was employed as a full-time instructor at Kilgore College's East Texas Police Academy. His TCLEOSE certificates include Master Peace Officer, Instructor License, and Firearms and Rifle Instructor License. He also held 11 certificates from Thunder Ranch Law Enforcement including NRA Patrol Rifle, Handgun, Shotgun Instructor and Texas Concealed Handgun License Instructor. Over the years he accumulated over 6,000 training hours and held a commission with the Gregg County Sheriff's Office.

Timothy was a member of Greggton First Baptist Church, joining there with his family in 1986. He also was a member of Pine Tree Masonic Lodge, No. 1396.

The family would like to thank all their friends and Timothy's friends for their prayers and many acts of kindness and concern shown over the past five years, with special gratitude to Stefanie Yoder for her friendship and compassionate assistance, and the staff of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and Heart's Way Hospice for their excellent and loving care.

John Wesley's words held a special place in Timothy's heart. “Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.”
