Robert D. (Bob) LaBay passed away peacefully on January 8, 2018. Services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, January 13, at Pine Tree Church of Christ, 3221 Dundee Rd. in Longview with visitation one hour before.

Bob was born on May 19, 1932 in the East Texas Oil Field town of Selman City to parents Archie Elliott and Mary Elizabeth (Marie) LaBay.

He graduated in 1950 from Gaston High School in Joinerville where he played sports and was elected "Duke of Devil Land" his Senior year. Later that year on October 7, 1950, he married LaQuita Ann Scarborough in Henderson. He was a machinist and worked at Lone Star Steel until 1960 when he moved his young family to Hooks, Texas where he worked at Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant. While in Hooks, he coached little league baseball and taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church.

He and LaQuita raised their 5 sons there until 1975 when he started work at the Schlitz Container Plant in Longview. The family had only been in Longview a short time when they lost LaQuita to breast cancer.

After LaQuita's death, he met Peggy Sue Ramey, also widowed, and they were married on July 22, 1979. With 2 boys still at home, they were involved in Pine Tree athletics, school functions and Pine Tree Church of Christ. Bob and Sue volunteered several years with the Medina Children's Home "Moms with Kids" program. Bob belonged to the Pine Tree Masonic Lodge and was a 50-year 32nd degree Master Mason.

Bob and Sue loved to camp. They took the boys and later the grandchildren camping often. They loved watching their grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports, music, plays and whatever else they else they participated in.

After retirement, they bought a motorhome and traveled the country extensively. They had many happy trips with friends who were all avid Bridge and Domino players. Bob even patented a board game, "Pegs Play and Draw". They eventually visited all 50 states and 5 provinces of Canada.

A large blended family resulted from the marriage of Bob and Sue Ramey. The LaBay children are David (Susan), Danny (Lou), Dean, Darin (Corie) and Devin (Cammy). The Ramey children are Debbie (Gary) Jones, Sharon (Tom) Freeman, Randall (Melissa) Ramey and Judy Ramey. Grandchildren are Ashleigh (Frank) Buchanan, Kevin (Hillary) Jones, Jesse LaBay, Bret LaBay, Daniel (Jenny) LaBay, Perry (Beth) Ramey, Eric (Nichole) Utz, Kathryn (Ryan) Daltry, David J. LaBay, Morgan (Chase) Addington, Madeline Ramey, Rebecca LaBay, Sheridan LaBay, Cullen LaBay, Trevor LaBay and Rose LaBay. Bob is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, one sister Winona Sanders of Beaumont and a number of nieces and nephews.

Flowers are permitted or memorials may be sent to Pine Tree Church of Christ building fund (3221 Dundee Rd, Longview, TX 75604), Breckenridge Village of Tyler (15062 CR 1145, Tyler, TX 75704).
