Funeral services for Mrs. Bea Williams, 81, of Carthage, Texas will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Waldrop Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at Hawthorn’s. Mrs. Williams died June 19, 2017 in Longview, Texas.
Mrs. Beatrice Willey “Bea” Williams was born September 4, 1935 in Jasper County, Texas. She was one of seven children born to the marriage of Frank J. and Serena Ratcliff Willey. She was raised and schooled in Nederland, Texas graduating with the class of 1952. She would graduate Jacksonville College in 1954 and obtain her Bachelors of Science from ETBU in 1966. Bea would marry Norvil Williams August 14, 1954 in Jacksonville, Texas and together they would raise four sons and celebrate 62 years of marriage. Mrs. Williams would teach elementary schools for many years and served as owner and operator of the family furniture business, Williams Furniture Company, which she and Norvil established in 1970. Bea was active as an Aggie Mom Club President, the Altrusa Club, the Victory Sunday School Class, which she started, at First Baptist Church of Carthage where they would raise their family as active members as well. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Edna Totten and Anette Lormand.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her devoted husband, Norvil Williams of Carthage; sons, Terry Williams and wife Marja of Bedford, Johnny Williams and wife Terri of Carthage, Steve Williams and wife Rhonda of Carthage, Cody Williams and wife Julie of Carthage; brothers, Joe Willey of Groves, Phil Willey of Lewisville, Herman Clark Wade; sisters, Nancy Templain and Janis “Betty” Mathews of Little Rock, AR; ten grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
The family requests memorials to the Jacksonville College, Norvil and Bea Williams Scholarship, 105 BJ Albriton Drive, Jacksonville, Texas 75766.
