Graveside services for Jean Marie Aills of Liberty City, Texas, will be 1:00 pm, Tuesday, August 14, 2017, at Lakeview Cemetery, Longview, Texas, with Reverend Ben Bagley officiating. Mrs. Aills died on Sunday, August 6, 2017, following a long illness.

Jean was born November 20, 1926, in Cooke County, Texas, to D. Claude and Ola L. Lamb. Jean Marie married James D. Sledge in 1944. They lived in Whitesboro, where they raised their daughter and attended the First United Methodist Church. Following Jim’s death, Jean lived and worked in Whitesboro where she enjoyed her P.E.O. sisters, many nieces and nephews, and was a valuable member of the community. On April 30, 1988, Jean married James M. Aills and they moved to Kilgore, Texas, where they became active members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Jean enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling and visiting with family.

Mrs. Aills is survived by her daughter, Jan Sledge Richardson of Oklahoma City; 3 step-grandsons, Dustin, Cole and Aaron McGilvray of Texas; nephews W. D. Welch and Tommy Kincy and nieces Sherry Harrison, Brenda Lloyd, LaNita Newsome all of Whitesboro, Texas. Also survived by nephew Robert Welch of New Mexico, niece Ann Buhrkuhl of Big Spring, Texas and a host of great nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her 2 husbands, 3 sisters, Opal Gooch, Annie Lois Kincy, and Louise Welch, stepdaughter, Kelly McGilvary, and parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Texas State Chapter of the PEO Sisterhood, the Methodist church or the charity of choice.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Loretta Ross for her compassion and friendship.
