January 18, 1928 - September 29, 2015

George Lemont Maddox
Henderson, TX
9/29/2015

George Lemont Maddox was born on January 18, 1928 in Chauncey, Georgia and died on September 29, 2015 in Henderson, Texas surrounded by his loving wife and children.

George’s faith in God led him to pastor several churches throughout his life after attending Tennessee Temple Bible School and College in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His ministry was focused on struggling Baptist churches that were on the verge of closure. He was instrumental in the revival of numerous churches in Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, and Texas. His calling was to improve the spiritual condition of the congregation as well as church finances and physical improvements to the properties. He did this all while maintaining full time jobs to support his family. The struggles that George overcame in his ministries provided ample opportunities for the Lord to reveal Himself, ensuring that George lived a rich, full life. After retiring from the ministry, George didn't stop working to spread the gospel. He developed a way to convert sermons from reel-to-reel tapes to audio cassettes, thereby preserving the insight and lessons for generations to come. At his death, George was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Henderson, Texas.

In his professional life, George was responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of various types of electrical equipment. He helped to design and implement the first split console for cranes which has been used, almost exclusively, by every manufacturer since its inception. For many years, George's love of gardening kept his family and friends well stocked with fresh vegetables. Woodworking was also a beloved pastime of his which provided an outlet for both his creativity and attention to detail. George also loved nature, always making sure the hummingbird feeders were full.
