Doris Genelle Holcomb Richards of Rusk passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015, peacefully at her home in Rusk, Texas.

Genelle was born June 27, 1927, to Robert F. (George). Holcomb and Bessie Hendrick Holcomb. She graduated from Rusk High School in 1944 and attended college at Texas State College for Women where she graduated with her degree in 1948 with both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science degrees.

She married James Polk Richards, Sr., who predeceased her in 2007, and they had four children Cathy Richards Penn (married to Ray), Debra Richards, James Polk Richards, Jr.(married to Jan), and Robert William (Ricky) Richards (married to Cindy).

She is survived by her children, six grandchildren Eric Penn, Wes Penn, Bryce Penn, Rheagan Penn, Ashlen Richards, and Misty Richards, and eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and she is further survived by her brother George Robert Holcomb and his wife Butch Holcomb, and her brother-in- law, Harry Allen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Eloise Allen, Rosemary Thompson, and Ruth Holcomb.

Genelle and James Polk enjoyed a wonderful life in Rusk, Texas where they raised their family and were very active in the community. Genelle was active in the First United Methodist Church and very much enjoyed being a member of the choir. James Polk and Genelle operated Richards Grocery and Richards Cafeteria on the square in Rusk for 24 years.

The family would very much like to thank the care givers from One on One Personal Homecare Services and The Heart to Heart Hospice Organization that took such good care of Genelle in the last few years. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the neighbors on Nottingham Drive who have taken such good and loving care of Genelle in her golden years.
