Darnell “Nell” Callaway, age 81, of Macon, Texas, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 11, 2017, in Forney, Texas. Nell was born May 18, 1936, in Dangerfield, Texas to Charles Arthur Barton and Clara Bell Shaddix Barton. She was a longtime resident of Macon, Texas and lived in the East Texas area most of her life although she spent the last few years of her life in Mesquite and Forney, Texas. Nell was a homemaker while raising her children and later in life worked as a nurse aide for many years. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, working in the yard, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Nell was preceded in death by her spouse, Gerald Callaway; her parents, Arthur and Clara Barton; three sisters, Eileen Hill, Marie Moore, and Bill Golden; and five brothers, Edward Barton, Jimmy Barton, Glen Barton, Ray Barton, and Winston Barton.

She is survived by her children; three girls and their spouses, Sharon and Bob Long of Crandall, Texas, Cindy and Kurt Malone of Southlake, Texas, and Joyce and David Brown of Marshall, Texas; and three boys and their spouses, Danny Benson of Dallas, Texas, Billy and Debbie Benson of Springfield, Arkansas, and Franklin and Brenda Benson of Center Ridge, Arkansas. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Harrison Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 13, 2017 with Bro. Dwaine Higgins officiating. Interment will follow at Cornett Cemetery outside of Naples, Texas.
