Services for Bobbie Darrell Weber age 77 of Palestine will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Palestine with Rev. Alex Lupo, Rev. Cheyann Chambers, and Chasity Flanagan Holman officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Methodist Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to and provided by Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. Rev. Weber passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Hospice of East Texas, in Tyler. He was born October 9, 1939 in Russell, AR. to Willard and Jean Peace Weber. He was a retired pastor. Rev. Weber, who preferred to be called Bobbie, graduated from high school in Bald Knob, Arkansas and received his BA in mathematics from Sam Houston State Teacher’s College. He began his first career as a junior high math teacher. After that, he was encouraged to pursue a second career working under government contract for RCA at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida. In 1964 he joined the Mission Planning and Analysis Division of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and worked there for thirteen years as an aeronautical engineer, chiefly in the area of trajectory analysis, for the Gemini, Apollo, SkyLab, and Space Shuttle missions, including the famous lunar landing and Apollo 13. In 1977, Bobbie entered Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, where he received his Master of Divinity degree and then embarked upon another career, as a United Methodist pastor. He served at a series of churches in the Texas conference: Bethlehem UMC of Hudson, Texas: Burke UMC: Beckville, Allison Chapel, and Elkhart UMC’s; Slocum Union Church: Woodville UMC: and Canton and Linden UMC’s. He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Patsy Allen Weber of Palestine, his daughter Kathy Weber Brown and husband Nathan of Valle de Angeles, Honduras, his son Tracy Dayne Weber and wife Nicci of Trinity, Texas and his grandchildren, Erik and Megan Weber. He is also survived by his sisters Patsy Sellers and Terri Whitley: brothers, Jimmie Dale Weber, Melvin Weber, and Kevin Weber. Pallbearers will be Jerry Barnes, Nathan Brown, Terry Denson, Don Nelson, Jimmie Dale Weber, and Nicci Weber. Honorary pallbearer will be Buddy Holcomb. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, 207 S. Magnolia, Palestine, Texas, 75801. Memorials may be made to Cultivate Honduras or World Race.
