Annie Mae Watson
Nacogdoches, TX
1/7/2018

Annie Mae Hutson Watson, 89, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away on January 7, 2018 in Nacogdoches. She was born on June 2, 1928 in Appleby, Texas to Arthur Albert Hutson and Emmie Jane Simmons Hutson. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Bethel Cemetery with Rev. Randy Seybert officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Laird Funeral Home.

Annie grew up in the Nacogdoches area and graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1945. After graduation, she attended Stephen F. Austin State University to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education with specializations in Physical Education and History. She received her degree in 1948 from SFASU and then spent her lifetime dedicated to her students at different public schools in East Texas. During her career as an educator, she coached girls basketball, tennis, track and volleyball. She had a great passion for physical education and sports and how they could benefit any individual. Annie embodied what she tried to instill in others and maintained a very healthy and active lifestyle. She was an avid tennis player until her 70’s, and she also loved to spend time cycling in the outdoors.

Annie was very humble about her accomplishments in sports even though her career and personal accolades were innumerable. She has a room full of trophies as evidence of her and her students’ success. If she wasn’t coaching sports, you could rest assured she would be watching them on television or discussing recent games and events with others. She was a kind, caring, and genuine woman that spent her life serving others and helping them to become better people. Annie was selfless and willing to give of herself and her time to all in need. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and the impact she made on so many lives will be treasured in the years to come.

Annie is survived by her daughter, Janie Winslow and husband, Kevin Gill of Nacogdoches; sister, Ola Mae Stone of Pittsburg; grandchildren, Jonathan Winslow of Nacogdoches, and Katherine Walker of Katy, Joseph Riessland of San Antonio, Ciara Watson of Baytown, Niah Watson of Baytown, Elijah Watson of Baytown; and four great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Emmie Jane Hutson; son, Mike Watson; brother, brother, Franklin L. Hutson, and Bernice Hutson; and sister, Maurine Weatherly.

Honorary pallbearers for Ms. Watson’s service will be Jonathan Winslow, Joseph Riesland, Sammy Rust, Neal Walker, Elijah Watson, Kevin Gill, Mitchell Weatherly, Albert Weatherly, Edward Weatherly, Milton Weatherly, Bernie Hutson, Stevie Hutson, and Frank Hutson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Bethel Cemetery Association, 270 CR 2082, Nacogdoches, Texas, 75961.
